Millet Patties

Here is a simple recipe for making Millet Patties, a delicious and nutritious vegan dish


  • 1 cup millet, rinsed and drained
  • 2 cups vegetable broth or water
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1/2 cup cooked peas or corn (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, for cooking

Recipe Preparation

  • In a medium-sized pot, bring the vegetable broth or water to a boil. Add the rinsed millet, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes, or until the millet is cooked and the liquid is absorbed. Fluff the millet with a fork and let it cool slightly.
  • In a skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until it becomes translucent.
  • Add the minced garlic and grated carrot to the skillet. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the carrot is slightly softened.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked millet, sautéed onion-carrot mixture, chopped parsley, ground cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine. If using peas or corn, add them to the mixture as well.
  • Take a portion of the millet mixture and shape it into a patty using your hands. Repeat this process with the remaining mixture to make several patties.
  • In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil/ cold pressed ground nut oil and heat it over medium heat. Place the millet patties in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  • Once the patties are cooked, remove them from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  • Serve the millet patties warm, either on their own or in a bun as a burger. You can also enjoy them with a side of salad, dipping sauce, or your favorite condiments.
